ADC announces that Brookshire Grocery Company, a 150 store chain based in Tyler, Texas has completed rollout of ADC’s P-Cubed In-Store Fresh Production Planning module in all of their stores.
The P-Cubed In-Store Fresh Production Planning module generates demand-based production plans from store-specific sales forecasts, which results in having the optimum amount and variety of fresh foods available at the right time for customers. Brookshire Grocery Company implemented the P-Cubed In-Store Fresh Production Planner as a sales building and shrink management tool for their fresh food departments.
“All 150 of our stores are now running production planning in four departments – deli, bakery, chef prepared and produce. On average, we run around 1,000 production plans per day per department across our 150 stores,” said Jonathan Key, Fresh Item Management Coordinator at Brookshire Grocery Company.
The P-Cubed In-Store Fresh Production Planner has taken the guesswork out of fresh food production planning. With the software, Brookshire Grocery Company now has educated in-stock information on availability in their fresh food departments.
Brookshire Grocery Company implemented the software in phases to enable rigorous training in each store. ”The first stores to start using the software reported that the production numbers were incredibly accurate. One store director reported that they have had their best quarter ever, with more sales and less shrink,” continued Jonathan.
Brookshire Grocery Company also tracks how the stores comply with the production plan. “With management oversight and support, we are seeing, on average, a 97% compliance rating across our stores,” Jonathan stated.

The P-Cubed In-Store Fresh Production Planner is a module within P-Cubed, ADC’s Production Manager system. P-Cubed is one of three software systems that comprise InterStore, ADC's integrated fresh item management software suite. The other two systems are: InterScale Scales Manager, which hosts data to and from barcode labeling scales in the fresh food departments, and the NutriGen Recipe Manager, which derives the true cost of recipes (including packaging and labor), as well as managing all of the allergen and nutritional facts through their recipes for legally compliant labeling.

The P-Cubed In-Store Fresh Production Planner generates demand-based
production plans from store-specific sales forecasts, which results in the
retailer having the optimum amount and variety of fresh foods available at the
right time for their customers. The retailer began the implementation of the
module after their successful rollout of ADC’s P-Cubed Shrink Manager.
“Our first priority in our FIM project was identifying our shrink factors.
Once we had visibility of this information, we began the second phase of our FIM
project, which was production planning,” said the company’s FIM Coordinator.
“The first measured results have come from our ground beef, where we’ve had a
50% shrink reduction, without impacting our sales. Additionally, customers have
been complementing our stores on the overall freshness of our meat products.
We’re looking forward to installing this in our bakery departments next.”
With the P-Cubed In-Store Fresh Production Planner, store associates are
provided with system-generated production plans as simple “to-do” lists,
advising how much of each product to prepare to meet expected sales while
minimizing the amount of wastage at the end of the day.
“When a customer starts a FIM project, we work with them to create an
implementation schedule, so they are implementing software modules in an order
that helps address their specific and immediate needs,” said Steve Loveridge,
ADC’s CEO. “This helps the customer see fast results in the early stages of
implementation and builds momentum for later phases of their FIM project.”
A 200+ store regional grocery chain in the USA has piloted and is rolling-out ADC's P-Cubed Perishable Production Planning software system and has seen a consequent average 35.6% reduction in shrink in its Deli and Bakery departments.
The Perishable Production Planning module generates demand-based production plans from store-specific sales history, which results in having the optimum amount and variety of fresh foods available at the right time for customers.
"The first success story we saw with the system came from an item that had never been on promotion before" stated the retailer's CIO. "ADC's software forecast that we needed 31 of the item available for sale. While the store was hesitant to produce that quantity, they indeed sold 30. However, that was just the beginning. Once we were producing the optimum quantities of fresh products, we saw a drastic average reduction in our perishable shrink of 35.6% in just two of our fresh departments."
ADC was able to track and report the reduction in shrink by collecting sales movement data at the item-transaction level starting for over a year prior to the P-Cubed implementation. This allowed a direct comparison of same store, same item year on year performance over a 10 week period, contrasting items on the production plan against candidate items yet to be put on production planning. Unit shrink reduced by 25.5% on production plan items but increased by 10.1% on non-production plan items.
